Payroll System Alert – Minimum Wage Increases for 2014

Employers and employees in Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Quebec need to be aware of the changes that have occurred or will be occurring this current year. Necessary updates to payroll systems and payroll software must be made.

As of June 1st, 2014 all minimum wage rates in Ontario have increased as per the chart below. Ontario payroll deductions must be made accordingly:

In Prince Edward Island the minimum will increase twice this year, and payroll deductions and payroll systems must be updated

  • Effective June 1st, 2014, the hourly minimum wage will increase from the current rate of $10.00 per hour to $10.20 per hour.
  • On October 1st, 2014, the minimum wage rate will increase again to $10.35 per hour.

Effective October 1st, 2014, the minimum wage in Saskatchewan will increase from $10.00 to $10.20 per hour.

Effective September 1st, 2014 Alberta minimum wage will increase from $9.95 to $10.20. For employees that serve liquor the minimum wage will increase from $9.05 to $9.20. This will affect the Alberta payroll systems and corporate payroll services.

As of May 1st, 2014 all minimum wage rates in Quebec have increased as per the chart below:
