Business Development Representative

PEO Canada is partnering with our client Dover Services, a transportation company with freight operations across North America, to hire a Freight Cargo Agent. This role is focused on building relationships with clients and service companies to ensure timely deliveries. As a sales-focused individual, you will be working with an existing client base, as well as performing business development activities to contribute to the company’s growth. This is a full-time permanent position, and candidates can be based anywhere in Canada.

The Role:

  • Contacting clients to discuss planned shipments
  • Discussing details to determine contents, schedule, destination, and related matters
  • Informing client of available methods of transport, shipping rules, insurance requirements, customs documentation and any other logistics-related matters
  • Providing quotations and completing shipping, insurance, and customs documentation
  • Preparing contracts for transportation of cargo with shipping companies
  • Using rate schedules and company contacts with transportation firms to determine carrier best suited to meet client’s needs
  • Negotiating with carriers to obtain optimum rate for client’s cargo
  • Making arrangements to move goods and coordinating transportation and logistics details
  • Preparing bills of lading, invoices, and other required shipping documents
  • Notifying clients of cargo shipments, status en-route, and time of delivery
  • Invoicing client when cargo has been delivered

Required Skills

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Previous sales experience, in a high commission environment
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • The drive to make a high volume of calls daily, and follow up with e-mails
  • Minimum high school diploma
  • Proficiency with MS office
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining relationships
  • A valid Driver’s Licence, Passport and the ability to travel to the US
